Why Your Car Never Really Looks Clean for Long Reading Fall Car Care: 5 Small Steps That Keep Your Car Looking and Feeling Clean 5 minutes
Fall is the time of year when the sun begins to ease, and it’s finally tolerable to work in our garages again. It’s the right time to care for our cars after summer road trips, long days sitting in the sun, coats of pollen, bug splatter across the windshield, and sunscreen spills on upholstery.

It’s also the perfect time to prepare and protect your car before the colder months ahead.
And while the days are shorter, we’re less likely to have to wash our cars early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the sun's beating rays.

The goal isn't a full detail every weekend, but to focus on five key steps you can do now to reset your car after the summer months and help protect it through the winter.

1. Start With the Glass

Exterior glass accumulates road film, pollen, sap, and bug splatter.
The summer heat can cause the plastics in your car to fog up the inside windows and leave behind a film. That’s in addition to the film left behind by humidity and, sometimes, fingerprints.

After washing, clean the exterior glass with Windscreen Clear and keep your view clear with Kristall Klar washer fluid. Want to keep the exterior glass cleaner for longer? Applying Glass Sealant will do just that for up to six months. It’ll also increase visibility during heavy rainstorms and help keep ice from sticking in the winter.

Lastly, check your wiper blades before colder weather arrives.

2. Reset the Interior After Summer

Summer drives leave behind dust, fingerprints, sunscreen, sweat, and general residue. Touch points like armrests, entertainment screens, seat belts, door pulls, center console, and the steering wheel collect buildup quickly.

A quick wipe-down with Cockpit Premium can make the whole vehicle feel newer, even if the exterior has not been washed. Cockpit Premium leaves a clean, factory finish without shine, so the interior feels clean and relaxing.

For areas with stubborn grime buildup, reach for Plastic Deep Cleaner first, then finish with Cockpit Premium. Plastic Deep Cleaner’s concentrated formula will remove buildup from areas like the steering wheel and shift knob when they need a deeper clean. It also removes rubber scuff marks.

3. Treat Rubber Seals Before They Become a Problem

“What’s that squeaking noise?” is how it all starts. You don’t think about your weather seals until the issue reveals itself. It may not be squeaking; instead, you might find you can’t open your doors during a winter freeze.

So, before surprises happen, you can prevent them with our weather seal conditioner and protectant, Gummi Pflege Stift.

Door seals, trunk seals, sunroof seals, and rubber trim are all great candidates for Gummi Pflege treatment.

Fall is the right time to condition rubber before colder mornings arrive. Preventive maintenance is easier than fixing dried-out rubber later. Best of all, it takes only a few minutes, and a bottle goes a long way.

4. Refresh Tires and Exterior Trim

Tires and trim are some of the first areas to make a clean car look tired. Summer heat and UV exposure can make surfaces look faded. This isn’t about making them look shiny; it’s about conditioning them and helping keep them from drying and cracking down the road.

Use Vinyl-Rubber Extra for exterior plastic trim, rubber, and tires. For extra tire protection, use Tire Foam, which includes ozone protectants specific to tire care.

Apply as needed after a wash. They won’t build up and splatter. They both leave a natural satin finish that won’t attract dust, and they have excellent weather resistance.

5. Add Light Exterior Maintenance Between Washes

The simplest way to keep your car looking clean longer is to do some light maintenance between washes. Fall driving brings dust, pollen, light road film, leaves, and occasional sap.

You don’t always need to wash to bring back the gloss. A quick wipe-down between washes with Perfect Shine will remove light dust, pollen, fingerprints, and fresh road film, while boosting gloss, adding protection, and enhancing the protection of applied waxes, sealants, and ceramic coatings.

Add extra protection after washing with Pearl Seal, which adds an extra layer of polymer protection to help keep road film from sticking, so the next wash is faster and easier, and future wipe-downs with Perfect Shine are more effortless.

A few small steps will keep your car cleaner, more comfortable, and easier to maintain as cooler days approach.
